“Today I went to school and after school Barbara picked me up and we went down the street. At night we played out.”
“Today I went to school. After school Barbara and I went down the street. At night we went out and played.”
“Today I did not go to school. I stayed home and played records and then I watched television. At night I watched television.”
“Today Barbara and I messed around here for a while and then we went down to her house when we left we went to the Record store and we stayed there for about 2 hours and played all kinds of records. Then we were walking up the street and Ralph, Barry and some other guy were sitting at the bus stop in front of the bowling alley. When we walked by Ralph said ‘hi’ and Barry said something. When we got home Paul, Ricky and Bob came over. At night I listed to the radio and watched television.”
“Today we got up and ate breakfast. Then later we went bowling. We bowled a couple of games and then we went down the street. Sallie asked this girl if it was hot enough for her and she gave her the finger. Then the girl came over to Sallie and she asked her what she said and Sallie said, ‘Is is hot enough for you?’ And the girl called her a queer. So they followed us and we were in a head and we started to leave and that girl wouldn’t let Sharon out so Sharon pushed her out of the way then she pushed back and Sharon pushed harder and walked away. At night we went to the drive-in. We sat outside on the benches and we smoked a pack and a half of cigs.”
“Today Barbara and I went down the street and at night we went to the show. Ralph did not go to the show. Some girl won the surfboard at the Roxy.”
“Today I cleaned up my room. Later we went down the street. When we went by the bowling alley I said, ‘If Ralph came out of there now, I think I’d die.’ Well, he did come out of there but I’m still alive. When he came out he was with Barry . All day Barb and I were walking by the B.A. Then we saw Ralph in there again and he watched us walk by.
“Last night Sallie didn’t go to sleep at all. We stayed awake all night. We got up and cleaned up the house about 7:30. Most everybody got up. Jerry, Barb and I went for a walk. Later, Barb, Sal and I went down the street and walked around.
Then later Jimmy came over and he was real mad cause he said that Sallie called him up at 4:00 o’clock last night and said it was a long distance call.”
“Today I went to school and after school I went to the beauty shop with Barb. At night we went to the show. We were standing at the door and Warren walked by me and smiled. I wanted to sit behind him in the show but there wasn’t any seats. Verne and Connie, Butch, Wayne, Carol & Brian and Benny was there. Then later, Sonny and that other guy came. For a while, Benny was sitting with me but Barb kept talking about Warren so Benny got jealous and we sat with Bob. Later, Ben said he was going to get the (crop?) from Connie but she wouldn’t give it to him but he got it later only Connie threw them on the floor and Ben couldn’t find it.
Sonny came over and talked to us and he asked us if we were going to come to the show tomorrow.”
To begin with, I purchased an antique book copyrighted in 1845 about Elocution Philosophy (for $10) and I was intrigued when I found this handwritten poem on a back page with the title of it reading,
