Miss Norma’s Diary – December 17, 1961 – “All these guys were waving at Barbara and I”

Sunday

“Today Ian took me driving up at University City. It was real fun. I went up to fifty miles an hour. When we got back Barbara and I went down the street. We went to the record store. Then we went to the Bar-B-Q Pit. Little hick, Creamy, Bobby was working. When we left there we walked up the street and we saw Big (cute) Hick at the service station. Creamy was there too and the blue Chevy was there too. All these guys were waving at Barbara and I. At night I stayed home and watched television. Barbara and I saw Don and this other guy and girl going up to Barry’s house. Don had two six packs of beer with him.”

Miss Norma’s Diary – December 16, 1961 – “Little Hick rang it up and gave me the change back and he touched my hand”

Saturday

“Today Barbara had to work. I walked down the street by myself and everybody was whistling at me. When I got to the record store, Barbara and I went over to the Pit. Little Hick was in there and he was talking to Bobby. Barb and I went up there and Bobby said ‘don’t you want any French fries?’ So, we got a coke and Little Hick rang it up and gave me the change back and he touched my hand Big deal. But it got me jazzed. He kept looking at me too. When we were sitting down Little Hick was sitting down too at the back table. He kept looking at us. Every time I look back at him he would be looking at me. At night I stayed home and watched television.”

Miss Norma’s Diary – December 15, 1961 – “Barb and I kept looking over at him and he was looking back”

Friday

Today I went to school. After school Barb and I went down the street. Only Creamy and Bobby were working When we were going to Barbara’s house Little Hick drove down the alley. All I could do was scream and point at him. Barbara started cracking up and so did I. At night Barbara and I went to the show. At first all we saw were Don, Ronnie, Craig, Larry and Steve, Mike, Roxanne, Susan, Jean, Linda, a bunch of kids I know from school and I don’t know who else. During intermission I had almost given up hope that Charlie would come. But there he was sitting on the other side of the show. I was so happy. Barbara and I almost had a fit. After the show was over Barbara and I stayed because we didn’t see the first part of the movie. Charlie stayed too. Barb and I kept looking over at him and he was looking back. After we had seen the part of the movie that we had missed we didn’t want to leave. But right after that Charlie left. We waited a few minutes but he didn’t come back. So we got up and we started walking up the isle. I looked over at this person walking up the middle isle and I saw that it was Daddy. I was real mad and embarrassed. I told Barbara not to say anything cause Daddy was here. When we got up to the snack bar Charlie was up there. He looked at us and I looked at him and then we met Daddy so we went out to the car. I was so disappointed I kept watching to see if Charlie would come out but he didn’t. I wonder why he always waits till we leave. I wish I knew and I wish I would see him more than just on Friday night. We saw ‘The Young Doctors’ and ‘Back Street’ They were real good.

Miss Norma’s Diary – December 8, 1961 – “Every once in a while I would look at him and he would look at me”

Friday

“Today I went to school. At night Barbara and I went to the show. Barry, Steve and some other guys were sitting in the same row we were. Steve and Mike was there. Larry, Ronnie, Sonny, Don, A.T. And about a million other kids were there. Well I kept saying ‘I wish Charlie was here.’ During intermission, I looked around to see who was there and Charlie was sitting two rows behind us. . Well, pretty soon I heard someone sit down behind us. And I just knew that when I turned around it would be Charlie and it was. Every once in a while Sonny would look back at us. When Barbara and I went up Larry & Sonny were up there and Sonny said ‘Well, don’t say hi.’ Barbara and I just walked away. We really floored them. Toward the end of the movie Charlie got up and left. Barbara and I thought that he was go. So in a few minutes later, we decided to leave. When we went up Charlie was just coming out of the head. Well we stood around for a few minutes then we went back and sat down about ten minutes later we left. While we were standing outside I saw Charlie look out the door. Then he came out and talked to a few guys for a few minutes. Then he left. He walked up the way Barbara and I used to walk home. Then Barbara’s father came! Charlie sure is cute. Oh yeah, when Barbara and I went up the isle once Charlie looked at me and when we got up there, Barbara said that he watched me walk all the way up.

Charlie

Little Hick”
