Miss Norma’s Diary – October 2, 1960 – “But I sure felt like I was drunk and I was acting like it too”

Sunday

“Today I went to the swap meet with Mommy and Daddy and Frank. Mabel and Ian and Barbara. There was a bunch of junk out there. When we left there we went to see Maynard and Frankie. Then at night, Barbara ad I went down to the miniature golf course and Loren was working. He didn’t seem to glad to see us. Then he just looked at us but he was bowling with some guys. He was playing with that musician and Ronny and some other snazzy guys and all those guys kept staring at us. All of them but Loren. Pretty soon, Ronny and one of the guys left and Barbara and I were on the hole by the fence and so Ronny stopped and talked to us for a while. By the time we got through playing, Loren was by himself.

We were glad because now we could flirt with Loren. . .

. . .So we stood by the office and Loren came over and started talking to us. He talked to us for about 45 minutes. Later, Mr. Richards came and pretty soon, Loren left. When Loren was leaving, Barb and I was bowling and when Loren was walking by the bowling machine he said real soft, ‘ Bye’. A while after Loren left, Mr. Richards asked us if we wanted to play a game. So, we did. We really had “kicks” playing that game. If left like I was drunk. But I couldn’t win stand up and there were these 2 boys who kept staring at us and one of the boys said ‘shit’ and he said it loud and I said, ‘um, you shouldn’t cuss you bad boy.’ And I guess he heard me say that because he looked at me and they kept staring at us. Then there was these 2 other boys that was flirting with us and Barbara and I were flirting even though there were boys. But I sure felt like I was drunk and I was acting like it too.”
