The Thing That We Should All Know – Human Events 2020

The Thing is something that we should all know because it did (and still does) cement our commitment to freedom since its inception in 1776, by mutually pledging our Lives, our Fortunes and our Sacred Honor to the future of this country. As a result, the United States of America was born and this document is effectively our Birth Certificate. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called it “A Promissory Note to which every American was to fall heir”. He also said that it was, “A promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the ‘unalienable rights’, to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness”.

This is why knowing this document is more important now than ever before. Only then can we fully appreciate where our Feeedom and Independence comes from and how we later agreed “to secure these blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity” in the Constitution thereafter.

As a huge fan of old prints, I have spent years of my life reading and interpreting this document for fun and for clarification about how we, as Americans, can learn to recognize any oppression that may lead to the kind of tryanny that this country fought so hard to shake because it continues to take all of our diligence to keep it at bay, even to this day.

As a result, knowing The Thing will inevitably develop, within you, a true point of pride for this country which has supplied you with actual evidence of your Freedom and Independence in one, everlasting document – with rights and liberties that can never be taken away.

The United States of America began as an idea to give each person who was embraced by its blessings the right to “assume among the powers of the Earth, the Separarte and Equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them”. To this day, these words are meant to rally the common people to support a movement which promises safety and security for all Americans to be free to pursue uncommon lives, as well.

However, there is one thing that this document does NOT promise us and that is – Happiness. That, each person must Pursue on their own but after knowing these words more thoroughly,  you may rest assured that this country will never stand in the way of such pursuits. So, no matter who, what, when, where, why, or how you came to be an American, you can live your life here, in The United States of America, free from tyranny. The only catch is this: “but when a long train of abuses and usurpations pursuing invariably the same Object envinces a design to reduce them under Absolute Despotism it is their right, it is their duity to throw off such Government and to provide new guards for their future security.”

Obviously, this is a heavily loaded sentence! To which this document carefully describes the long train of abuses and usurpations which led to this July 4, 1776 Unanimous Declaration of the thirteen United States of America. The title, alone, abolished any idea that anyone had about making peace with Great Britain by declaring ourselves: The 13 United States of America (instead of: The 13 Colonies).

With that said, I present to you MY version of The Unanimous Declaration of the thirteen United States of America that I have commited to memory after removing 474 words (approximately, without changing any, other words) for the purpose of making it my own, timeless, contribution to our  everlasting freedom and I thank our previous defenders for their powerful words and constant diligence towards this same goal. Let’s keep it going!

So, without further ado, I present to you, MY version of The Declaration of Independence. I call it:

Human Events

List of words omitted:

Human Events:

When, in the course of
Human Events
It becomes necessary
For one people

To dissolve the political bands
Which have connected them
With another
And to assume among
The powers of the earth
The separate and equal station
To which the Laws of Nature
And of Nature’s God
Entitle them

A decent respect to
The opinions of mankind
Requires – that they should
Declare the causes
Which impel them
To the separation

We hold these truths
To be self evident
That all men
Are created equal
That they are endowed
By their Creator
With certain
Unalienable Rights
That among these are
Life Liberty and
The Pursuit of Happiness

That to secure these rights
Governments are instituted among men
Deriving their just powers
From the consent of the governed
That whenever any Form of Government
Becomes destructive of these ends

It is the Right of the People
To alter or to abolish it
And to institute new government
Laying its foundation
On such principles
And organizing its Powers
In such form
As to them
Shall seem most Likely
To affect their Safety
And Happiness
Governments long established
Should not be changed for
Light and transient causes
And all experience hath shown

That mankind are more disposed
To suffer
While evils are sufferable
Than to right themselves
By abolishing the forms
To which they are accustomed

But when a long train of abuses
And usurpations
Pursuing invariably the same
Object
Envinces a design
To reduce them
Under absolute Despotism
It is their right
It is their duty
To throw off such government
And to provide new guards
For their future security

The history is a history of
Repeated injuries
All having absolute tryanny
Over these states

To prove this
Let Facts be submitted
To a candid world

– – –

Refused assent to Laws
For the public good

Forbidden governors
To pass laws
Until assent be obtained
And has neglected to attend them

Refused to pass Laws
For large districts of people
Unless those people
Relinquish the right of representation

Has called together legislative bodies
At places distant from their public
For the sole purpose of fatiguing them
Into Compliance

Has dissolved
Representative Houses
Repeatedly
For opposing his invasions
On the Rights of the people…

Has refused to cause others
To be elected

Has endeavored to prevent the Population of these states
Obstructing the naturalization of Foreigners

Has obstructed justice
Refusing his assent to laws
Establishing judiciary powers

Has made Judges dependent
On his will alone
For their offices
And their salaries

Has erected new offices
Sent swarms of officers
To harass our people
Has kept among us in times of peace
Standing armies without Consent
Has affected to render the military
Independent of and
Superior to
The Civil Power
Has combined with others to subject us
To a jurisdiction foreign to our
Constitution and unacknowledged
By our laws

Giving his assent to their acts
For quartering
Armed troops among us

For protecting them by mock trial
From punishment for any murders
On the inhabitants of these states

For cutting off our trade
With all parts of the world

For imposing taxes on us
Without our consent

For depriving us of trial by jury

For transporting us beyond seas
To be tried for pretend offenses

For abolishing the free system
Introducing
Absolute Rule

For taking away our charters
Abolishing our most valuable laws
And altering
Fundamentally
The Forms of our Governments

For declaring themselves
With power for us in all cases
Whatsoever
Declaring us out of his protection
And waging against Us

Has plundered our seas
Ravaged our coasts
Burnt our towns
And destroyed the lives of our people

Transporting armies to complete
The works of death, desolation, and Tyranny with cruelty
Totally unworthy
The head of a civilized Nation

Has constrained our fellow citizens
To bear arms against their country
To become executioners of their friends
Or to fall themselves by their hands

Has excited domestic insurrections
Amongst us
To bring on the Savages

In every stage of these oppressions
We have petitioned for redress
In the most humble terms

Our repeated petitions have been
Answered only by
Repeated injury

A character is marked by every act
Which define a tyrant is unfit
To be the ruler of a free people

We have warned them
We have reminded them
We have appealed to their
Native Justice
And we have to disavow
These userpations
Which inevitably interrupt our Connections and Coorespondance

They have been deaf
To the voice of Justice
And we must hold them as we
Hold the rest of Mankind
Enemies in war
In peace friends

We the Representatives
Appealing to the supreme
Judge of the world
Of our intentions

And by the authority of the good people
Solemnly publish and declare that
These are and ought to be
Free and Independent states

And have full power
To Levy war
Conclude peace
Contract alliances
Establish commerce
And to do all other things
Which Independent states
May do

And with a firm reliance
On the protection of Divine Providence
We mutually pledge to each other
Our Lives
Our Fortunes
And
Our sacred honor
