Miss Norma’s Diary – September 10, 1960 – “I love Malcolm with all my heart”

Saturday

“Today Barbara and I went down the street. We were both still real mad at Loren a little. While we were walking along and this little car went by and I said to Barbara, ‘There that guy that Loren played golf with last night’ and then I looked in the front of the car and I said to her, ‘There’s Loren’. I said it real calmly and

Loren looked over and he waved and he smiled at us.

I didn’t wave back but Barbara did. At night, we went down there and Mr. And Mrs. Richards was. . . P.S. Malcolm didn’t take his car. I love Malcolm with all my heart.”

Miss Norma’s Diary – September 9, 1960 – “the girls kept flirting with Loren”

Friday

“Barbara and I went down the street today and at night we went down to the miniature golf course. Loren was working but when we went up to the office. Loren didn’t even talk to us. When we got through playing, Loren was still there with one of his friends and Loren’s father was there too. . .

These two girls came up. One was real ugly and the other was real cute. . .

. . .She had the most beautiful eyes you’ve ever seen and the girls kept flirting with Loren. When those girls were on the 9th hole, Barbara and I were sitting on the counter and Loren was leaning on the counter, staring at that girl. He was in a daze all the time he looked at her. Then Loren’s friend said to Loren ‘Let’s play golf’ and Loren said ‘Well let’s play the last half because the first is too busy’. But Loren just wanted to play the last half first because that cute girl was on the last half. The first half wasn’t even busy. Then, I heard Loren say to that other boy, ‘Let’s ask if we can play with those girls’. Then the girls started to walk over to the office and I heard Loren say, ‘Good, here they come.’ But they didn’t come over. So, Loren and that other boy went over to them and Loren asked if he could play with them. So, they did.”

. . .When we got through, our scores were 34 and 39 because we cheated. So, Loren looked at our score card and he laughed and said, ‘That’s a bunch of bull’. Later, after Jimmy came and Benny was there and Benny said he was going to call me up and Benny said, ‘I know why you come over here all the time because you like Loren’ And Benny told Loren I liked him and Loren smiled and came over and stood by me. Miss Norma’s Diary – September 5, 1960 – “He drove right past us and he looked right at us.”

Monday

“Today Barbara and I went to La Jolla. Then we walked up to Malcolm and Loren’s house. We saw the Lincoln, then we went up to the corner and sat on the bench, about 15 minutes later I said to Barbara, ‘I bet the Lincoln is not there anymore. So, we went down to see and it wasn’t there so we started walking down the hill and when we got a few houses past theirs, I saw a blue station wagon coming up the hill. So, I said ‘There’s Loren’ and it was. . .

He drove right past us and he looked right at us. . .

Sunday

“Today Connie and I went down the street for a while then we came home and sat around. At night, Barbara couldn’t go down to the miniature golf course, about 7:30 Mabel went down to the store and we drove by the miniature golf course and Mal and Loren was working. . .

I kept trying to get Frank and Mabel to play miniature golf buy they didn’t want to. . .

2016-09-02 07.53.02

. . .Then I tried to get Ian to go but he wouldn’t and Mommy and Daddy was too tired to go down there. So, I just sat in my room and cried because I don’t think Mal will work next Sunday because he leaves on Monday. So, I doubt if I will see him for a few years. I Love Malcolm with all my heart. I never had a crush on a boy as bad as this before because I just know that I love him and that I don’t just like him a little. I love him. I love him.”

Thursday

“Today I went down the street with Barbara and we fooled around there for a while, then we went down to the miniature golf course to see Jimmy.  Then we played golf. When we were halfway through, I saw Hardie. So, we started playing fast. When we were through, Barbara and I bowled with Jimmy then I played baseball. . . .

Hardie was standing there watching me play. . . .

2016-08-30 20.46.41

. . .I got 2 re-plays, then pretty soon, we left. Hardie left right after we did. At night, Barbara and I went to the show to see ‘The Story of Ruth’ and ‘The Snow Queen’ and next week at the show ‘The Time Machine’ is on and I said to Barbara, “I can’t wait till next week” but I think of Malcolm and then I don’t care if I ever see that movie.  I wish he wouldn’t go to college but I don’t think he likes me because he doesn’t act like he use to. I love Malcolm.”
