Tuesday

“Today I went to school and nothing very exciting happened. After school, I went home cause Barbara didn’t pick me up. So, I watched ‘Bandstand’ and they had all old songs on. Then I wrote Larry a letter. I can’t wait till the weekend. I hope Ian goes to the drive-in Saturday. I hope Larry and I see each other a lot over the weekend and I hope we all have a lot of fun, by all of us I mean Ian, Barbara, Larry and I didn’t think about Larry as much today.

At night I stayed home and watched television.”

Miss Norma’s Diary – April 17, 1961 – “I bought some writing paper and some stamps but I can’t think of anything to write Larry about”

Monday

“Today I went to school and it was a very boring day. I thought about Larry all day and all the time. I got Johnny’s picture. Connie said to me, “You don’t look very happy” and I said, “I’m just thinking about Larry” and she said, “Do you love him that much?’ and I said yeah. After school, Barbara and I went down the street and I bought some writing paper and some stamps but I can’t think of anything to write Larry about. I wish I could.

I could have Ian help me write a letter but he might tell Larry and I couldn’t take all that.”

Miss Norma’s Diary – April 16, 1961 – “He stopped and he drove us down to the beach. Then we all sat on the beach”

Sunday

“Today Barbara and I got up and got dressed and Ian took us down to the Jolly 4 and he talked to Larry about a story in C.P. Barbara and I was in there for a while then we went and sat in the car. Pretty soon Ian and Larry came out. Larry said he would see us later. Barbara and I went to the beach about 3:00. We were going to Oscars and we saw Larry. He stopped and he drove us down to the beach. Then we all sat on the beach. Larry was going to throw me in the water but he didn’t. He got sand in my hair and I messed up his hair and put sand in it. Then we all left. Larry wanted to go see Roy for a minute. So, we did. Then Larry said I won’t go anywhere unless you steer and I said I won’t so finally he drove.

Then he took us to the record store and he said to write him then he kissed me good-bye and later on I called him.”

Miss Norma’s Diary – April 15, 1961 – “Ian called and said that he couldn’t go to the drive-in “

Saturday

“Today in the morning when we got up, Barbara said Larry drove by and then I was happy. Ian had said that he would take us to the drive-in tonight. Barb and I just messed around down the street for a while. Then I bought a new bathing suit. Then we went to my house and then her house and ate there. We went back up to my house and Ian called and said that he couldn’t go to the drive-in but he would take us down to Larry’s and he would take us and Ian would pick us up after the show and I said ‘no’. Barbara went swimming today. Ian took us down to the Jolly 4 today. Barb and I washed our hair today.

We talked to Larry from 8 to 9 and from 9:20 to 12:00 on the phone.”

Miss Norma’s Diary – April 14, 1961 – “Barbara called Larry’s but he wasn’t there yet”

Friday

“Today I stayed home and watched television. About 5:00 Barbara came over and she asked Daddy if I could go to the show. So, he said I could. So we went and when we got down there, a little while later, Barbara called Larry’s but he wasn’t there yet and his dad said he didn’t know if he would get off. So, I got all worried that he wouldn’t get off for a long time. I spent the night with Barbara tonight. The movies were real awful. When we got out of the show and went to Barbara’s house, her folks weren’t even home.

They came home a while later.”

Wednesday

“Today I stayed home and watched television all day. I got up at 11:00 o’clock in the morning and just watched television. At night I watched television. ‘Wagon Train’ was real good. I was about a blind man and you could barely tell that he was blind. Then I went to bed and listened to the radio.

I have been thinking about Larry all day.
