Miss Norma’s Diary – December 31, 1961 – “When they passed they all looked in”

Sunday

“Today Barbara and i got up at 8:00 o’clock and we got dressed and went up to my house cause we were going to the swap meet with Frank and Mabel. When we got there we looked around and then Barbara and I walked to Chris and Gary’s house. Lonny had just left an hour before we got there. Gary said we should have called and Lonny wouldn’t have left. Well we had fun while we were there. At night we stayed home. Bobby and Nancy stayed till after New Years. Barbara spent the night with me. We went to the record store and Charlie, A.T. Billy and someone else was walking toward us. We hurried up and got in the store before they got up there. When they passed they all looked in.”

Miss Norma’s Diary – December 30, 1961 – “We left there and went to the frosty shop”

Saturday

“Today I stayed homes all day. Except when I went out with Mabel to the store and Carmona’s to look at a bed room set. At night Barbara, I Ian and Ian’s friend (a surfer) went to the drive-in but we got fogged out. We left there and went to the frosty shop. Barry, Mike, A.T and Charlie was there. Barry came over and started talking to Ian and he told him what he did last night at the show Charlie didn’t come over. I was glad too I don’t ever even know if he knew who we were. Then we went home. Then I spent the nite with Barbara. I want to got to Cris and Gary’s tomorrow. Sonny called me up and asked me to go to the show with him.”

Friday

“Today I stayed home all day. Later on in the late afternoon I went to the store with Ian. At nite Barbara and I went to the show to see ‘Susan Slade’ and ‘Clossess of Rodoes’. They were good. Larry, Vic Sonny and Barry was there Barry walked (by) us (in) the isle and he pushed my hand off the seat. On the way down he grabbed me. I cracked up. Steve and Mike was there too. I did go out for a while today with Mabel. I went to Linda’s and got a blouse. I asked Mommy if Lonny was still here and she said yet. Pat might be pregnant. I hope I get to see Lonny before he goes back home. Mabel said ‘You know the other nite, Lonny was really giving you the eye’ and she said ‘everybody knows about it.’ Kenny has to teeth now. With I would see little Hick once in a while.”

When we went by again he still looked. Later we saw Charlie. He went in the record store and so did we but he didn’t even look at us. Then we went in the Pit and nobody was working. At night I stayed home and watched T.V.”

Miss Norma’s Diary – December 25, 1961 – “I kept fixing Mabel screwdrivers and I kept drinking them”

Monday

Christmas

“Today we opened our presents and I got everything that I wanted. In the afternoon we went to Cris and Gar’s. Lonie was there and he didn’t jazz me at first. But later everybody was trying to get us together. Everybody kept saying he had his eye on me. He kept watching me and I kept watching him. Cris and Marie kept asking me if I would go on a date with him. Everybody kept kidding us. I was real jazzed by the time I left. I kept fixing Mabel screwdrivers and I kept drinking them. I am jazzed on Lonie now I think. I wonder if he is sex crazy, cause I sure hope not.”

Miss Norma’s Diary – December 22, 1961 – “I tried to talk Ian into going to the show but he wouldn’t go”

Friday

“Frank and Mabel came home today. Kenny is so big and strong now. Barbara had to work tonight. I tried to talk Ian into going to the show but he wouldn’t go. He said that he would call up Barry and he would take me. The he said, ‘Or I get Charlie to take you or even Little Hick.’ I wouldn’t have minded any of them really. I didn’t go out at all today. I did most of the ironing. I hope Barbara doesn’t have to work next Friday nite. I have to go out tomorrow and get Mommy’s present (the last one).”
