Miss Norma’s Diary – November 20, 1960 – “nobody else was home as Connie and I smoke a cigarette in the bathroom”

“Today at about 1:30 Barbara, Connie and I went out and before that Ian was trying to make out with Connie and then he bit her ear. Then after Ian went out, nobody else was home as Connie and I smoke a cigarette in the bathroom. When we was down at the golf course, Brian pulled me off in a corner and said, ‘Dick, Me and Benny are going for a drive to somewhere in La Jolla and we want you and Barbara and Carol to go with us.’ and I said ‘no’. Then I was mad at Benny. Later on, they left and before they left Connie told Benny I wanted a cigarette. So, he gave me one and I said, ‘I won’t smoke it if Connie doesn’t have one.” So, he gave her one. So, later we went to Oscars. When we came back to the golf course, they weren’t back yet but pretty soon they came,

Brian and Ray kept capping on Connie and she was real mad.

Later, we went home and Benny called me up and asked me why I was mad at him.”

Miss Norma’s Diary – November 19, 1960 – ” I was dancing with Ray and Verne tried to cut in but Ray wouldn’t let him. So, they started fight “

Saturday

“Today Barbara, Connie and I messed around down the street. At night we went to Ray’s party. Me and Connie was real nervous. We didn’t think Bonnie was coming to the party because she said she was going to a booze party with a guy but she said her brothers and Brian talked her into going to the booze party. All the kids who were at the party were Ray, Benny, Bria, Berne, Wayne, Butch, Dick, Bonnie, Barb, Connie, Priscilla, Malcolm, Patty, Me and Carol. When we first got to the party, Verne came over and sat down by me then he danced with me. Then we sat together then Connie came over and asked Verne to dance with her but he said ‘I got a cut on my hand.’ and Connie got real mad. Then I was dancing with Ray and Verne tried to cut in but Ray wouldn’t let him. So, they started fight but Dick broke it up. Then Verne went out and sat in the car. Every dance after that Connie danced with Brian and I was so mad at her for hurting Verne’s feelings. I started crying and I was cussing Connie out then Barbara and Bonnie was trying to get me to sound down Connie but then I went out and talked to Verne and I was out there for a long time talking about how lousy Connie treated Verne and I felt so sorry for Verne. I started crying. While I was talking to Verne.

Then he asked me to get him a cigarette.

So, I ran in and got one from Butch and then I told Verne that Ray was sorry and he wanted him to come back in. So, later he did. I was still crying my head off so I ran outside and sat on the swing and balled again. Butch kept asking me why I was crying and I kept telling him I felt like crying and I walked away from him. Then later, when I was sitting on the couch Butch came over and sat down and put him arm around me. So then Benny came over and pulled me away from him because I told Verne that I liked Benny. So Verne told Benny so then later Butch came up to me and asked me if I like Benny better than him and I didn’t answer him. Then later Connie and Verne made up to each other and I was so happy for them. I almost started crying again. Later, Dick and Barbara Connie and Verne Malcolm and Bonnie and Benny and me were all making out. Butch was real mad at me. He was cussing me out outside and he was smoking up a storm and he said you could never get him to smoke. Barbara said she hates Dick but I don’t know if it’s true. I was mad at Bonnie tonight because she kept trying to flirt with Benny when I was.”

Miss Norma’s Diary – November 18, 1960 – “I really had fun until he started getting fresh”

“Today I didn’t go to school and about 4:00 o’clock Barbara came over and she told me that Verne wanted that picture of Connie and him kissing because he wanted to write shit all over it and then show it to Connie. At night Barbara and I went to the show. Connie couldn’t go. Benny, Brian, Pris, Ray, Verne and Wayne was there so we sat there. Then Benny sat by me but I hate Benny. Then when Benny went up to get something Wayne sat by me. When Benny came back he told Wayne to move but he wouldn’t. Then Verne kept saying, ‘Come back and sit with me.’

So, I made out with him. I really had fun until he started getting fresh.

Then I told him I didn’t feel good and I went up to the head for a while. When I came back, Wayne was sitting someplace else. Everybody was trying to get me to sit with him but I wouldn’t. So, Verne kept talking to me and smiling. I really don’t want to go to Ray’s party because I don’t think it is going to be very nice the way everybody is talking but Ray’s folks are going to be the chaperones but I still don’t want to go to the party. I don’t know if I like Wayne but I know I like Verne. I don’t think I could ever like him. I sure hope Verne is not the same as Wayne. I love Verne.”

“Today I went to school but Connie didn’t go. Anyway, when I got home Barbara called me up and told me that

Verne asked her if Connie liked Wayne and if she did, he wanted his cross back.

So, later, Verne called her up and then Connie called me up and told me that she really liked Verne and everything was alright again and she said that Benny said that Connie took every boyfriend that I ever had away. And Connie said that’s not true Norma and Connie said she’s hated Wayne ever since.”

Miss Norma’s Diary – November 12, 1960 – ” Mal is so different. He was smoking up a storm and he was acting real big”

“Last night I stayed over night with Connie and we didn’t get out of bed till 2:00 o’clock. Then we went down the street and messed off. At night, we went to Barbara’s party. It was so boring at first, then we found out that Malcolm was home. So, when Loren came Malcolm came with him. Right when they came, I was watching Verne and Connie Then Verne danced with me and he held me real tight. After the dance, I watched them then I started crying and I was in the head (a miniature golf course structure) for about 20 minutes. I just couldn’t stop crying and everybody knew I was crying. Then when Loren and Mal came, I was scared to go out in the other room.

I danced with Mal and he is a crappy dancer.

I thought Loren was bad till I danced with Mal and Mal is so different. He was smoking up a storm and he was acting real big. Wayne was in Barbara’s bedroom playing cards with Patty. Then Patty wanted to play strip poker so they were going to but they never got around to playing it. I had Connie’s blouse on, it is high up at the neck so I left the two buttons open and Wayne kept saying, ‘That blouse sure is low. Why don’t you button it up?’ But I wouldn’t. Then he came up to me and started to button my blouse and I walked away. Then I was dancing with Brian and I told Brian that Wayne was a stupid asshole and Benny told Wayne what I said. Wayne was flirting with Connie at all to night, Benny kept trying to get Patty in the bedroom with Wayne so she went in there. Then she yelled for Barbara so we both ran in there and Patty was real mad She went in the other room and Wayne was laying on the bed and I said to him, ‘What are you trying to do Wayne? Strip her?’ and he said ‘no’. Then Barbara went in the other room and Wayne jumped up and closed the door and started to put his arms around me and then he said, ‘Oh come on, make out with me.’ So, I did. Then we went in the other room and started dancing. Then pretty soon, Barbara’s father took the kids home.”

At night, we went to the show with Barbara and the show started at 5:00 so when we got there, the movie had already started. Then later, Wayne, Bonnie, Brian, Verne, Benny and Ray came. Butch wasn’t there so I decided I had to give up Butch because he was a party pooper and I didn’t think he was cute anymore. Wayne kept bothering me to give him a dime so I did.
