Miss Norma’s Diary – August 23, 1960 – “Can I put my cigarettes in your purse so nobody will get them”

Tuesday

“Today I went down the street with Mommy and Mabel. At night, Barbara and I went to Joy’s beach party. It was pretty boring. Barbara and I kept waiting for Hardie to come but he never did. When they were serving the cake at the party, everybody was standing up at the table but me. I was sitting on the blanket. Paul’s mother came up to me and said, ‘Come up to the table with everybody else and get some cake.’ And I said, ‘I didn’t want any.’ So, she went over and got some and another guy and they came over. They were trying to pull me over to the table but I kept pulling back and then . . .

. . .Mickey came over and picked me up and carried me over to the table and put me down and I got some cake.

. . .Later, this guy named Dan came over and said, ‘Can I put my cigarettes in your purse so nobody will get them.’ I said ‘o.k.’ I had Neal’s radio all the time we were at the beach because he put it in my purse and told me to watch it for him.”
