Miss Norma’s Diary – October 5, 1960 – “as far as I can see Warren still pays quite a bit of attention to me”

Wednesday

“Today I went to school and as far as I can see Warren still pays quite a bit of attention to me. After school, Connie and I went down the street. At night, Barbara and I went to the miniature golf course and Loren was working. When we went up to the office, Loren didn’t say much. When Barbara and I got through playing, Loren was over at the baseball machine with some other guys and that little guy with the glasses was there too. . .

He has the sweetest smile. . .

Anyway, Loren wouldn’t come over and talk to us. He must have been mad from last night. I asked Barbara to go get me a coke so I wouldn’t have to go over by those guys. So, she did and that guy with the glasses came over to Barbara and asked what my name was so she told him and then he asked where I lived and she said, “I don’t know.” Later, Jimmy came and I wouldn’t talk to him and Loren asked me why I wouldn’t talk to him and I said, ‘because he embarrassed me’ and so he told Jimmy and I got more embarrassed. In a few minutes later, Loren said to Jim, ‘I’m gonna leave now’ and so we went over and sat down on the bench. I said to Barb, ‘I don’t think he’ll take us home because we hurt his feelings’ and sure enough he left without even saying ‘bye’ to us. Then Benny started bothering us. Later that guy with the glasses came back and he kept smiling at me and I smiled back. The he asked us if we wanted to play the free games he got on the baseball so Barbara did. When we left, I waved to the guy and he waved back.”
